Module 2: Frame It Up
Think About It
Do you know what a job actually looks like? That may sound like a funny question. But think about it. Can you imagine what it'll be like to go into work every day? What will you do all day long? Will you do different things over the course of 5 years? 30 years? It's estimated that the average person will change careers 3 times! If you're currently babysitting, or working in a fast food restaurant, it's likely that your workday will look radically different in 5 or 10 years.
Challenge Yourself
This module's Challenge scenario introduces you to a high school student who looks at the world of work through the eyes of his father, sister, and uncle. After looking at this scenario, you'll have the following Framing Questions to consider:
- What is a workday like?
- Will I do the same kind of work throughout my life?
- How is the world of work changing?

The documents and videos related to this challenge are there to help you think about a typical workday, understanding career changes, and learning about how the new global economy impacts what your work will look like. Remember to download and use the viewing guides located in the Useful Stuff section to the left.
As you go through the resources, relate what you find out to those Framing Questions you were presented with. Be sure to use ideas from your classmates and remember that the main goal of this module is to help you really understand what a typical workday will look like for you, and how that workday might change throughout the course of your career.
Go Further
As with Module 1, you will go through some activities that will help you go beyond just thinking about work
to looking at bigger issues that you will have to face as you enter the workforce. You might do some of the following
- Research various jobs and their potential wages, markets, and locations in the coming decade.
- Apply technology to the local workforce by using Wikipedia, MySpace, or Google to get perspective on the global workforce.
- Discuss with other students issues such as telecommuting vs. working in a traditional office, the need to study a foreign language, or the types of skills you might need for different types of jobs.
It's time to get started with Module Two!
